My birth story

First of all, I can’t believe I am a new mommy to this tiny little human being who is now almost 4 months and consumes all of my time. Maddox arrived June 23 at 3:45 pm. He came 3 weeks early but it all worked out for us since my husband (Christian) needed to go back to work mid August. He was able to enjoy him to the fullest (& those long restless nights we all love)

Two days before Maddox was born I was feeling very week and tired I was past my nesting stage and was always ready for a good sofa and a foot massage. Everyone kept telling me the baby was coming soon and in the back of my mind I kept saying “You people are crazy! He’s not due until July” but I kept smiling and going my way. Thursday night I was sleeping on the sofa (because my bed was no longer comfy or reachable) I started to feel water trickling down my leg and at first it came out soft but then I stood up and a lot came out. I freaked I thought ok! my water just broke but then this whole terrifying idea that he was super early daunted me and I ran to the hospital with Christian. Once there they checked me and told me it was not liquid from my amniotic sac. She said it probably was just me peeing but deep down I knew it wasn’t that so they discharged us and we went home. Later that morning I was using the bathroom and my mucus plug popped I called my doctor and nurses and they said it was fine that sometimes it takes days after it falls off for the baby to come. I spent all Thursday leaking water and walking around with wet jeans all day long. I knew something was up but I didnt think much of it since I had just left the hospital and they assured me I was ok.

On Friday morning I woke up and knew there was something odd. I had leaked the whole night and it was not pee so I went back to the hospital at around 3:00 in the morning and thank God for my doctors PA. She checked and said “Are you ready? That is definitely amniotic water and he’s coming." I smiled awkwardly but I was scared. They made me dress up in the hospital gown and into a birthing room I went. I spent the whole morning and night dilating but I wouldn’t dilate pass 2 cm. I then went on Pitocin to accelerate the process and it sure did! (with a lot of CRAZY contractions!) I remember crying and almost breaking off Christans hand. All Friday night to Saturday morning they kept increasing the medicine and I kept dilating and screaming. I wanted to jump off that bed so bad and just squat and push but the nurses were always checking and telling me it was almost over. Yeah right! The contractions got worse and the feeling of your bff down there falling off was horrible! Then, finally the epidural came and I slept a good couple of hours. When I woke up I was surrounded by Christian, my mom, and my sister who were going to be there while I delivered Maddox. Once I started waking up the epidural was wearing off and I started to scream again asking for more medicine but by the time I said that the nurse checked me and said “you’re 10 cm dilated!” And I said ok!

Nervously they prepped me to push and all angles of the hospital bed went up and my legs were being held and the pushing and contractions were coming strong. I pushed, and pushed, and pushed some more but Maddox was barely making an appearance. All they could see was his hair nothing else. I pushed again and went on until about 2:00pm. By this time I was drained out and Maddox was not coming any time soon. My doctor walked in and checked me one last time but Maddox was coming sunny side up. His head was facing up instead of down. Before I knew it I was being prepped for an emergency c- section because he was getting tachycardia. They rushed me, changed me, and put me into a surgery room. I was waiting for Christian to get there but he never did (since I was still awake while being cut open and I felt the incision they put me to sleep and Maddox was born!) We didnt get to experience the cutting of the umbilical cord or hearing his first cry. But the nurses were nice enough to capture all these moments while I was drugged up and Christian was in the waiting room waiting to hear the little lullaby they play when a baby is born.
He was born a healthy baby who stayed in the hospital for an extra 10 days because he was considered a late term preemie but thank God my big boy is now 15 pounds and healthy as can be. After what seemed to be a long process he was finally here and I couldnt wait to hold him. Luckily, they let me sleep the entire first night while he stayed in the nursery until I was well rested and was able to brestfeed and hold him for the first time. In that moment the whole world stopped (at least for me it did) and my heart knew a new love.
