Our Safe Haven

The last few months have been extremely hectic (in a good way) and very rushed. We moved out of our townhouse and relocated with my in-laws because Christian and I are gearing up to buy our first home. Our little man Maddox also turned a year old this past month. We've realized that our small bundle of joy is no longer small. Instead, he's a curious active boy who is crawling everywhere. Everything is slowly but surely falling into place and I can't wait to share with you all our haven home.

We decided a couple of months ago that we wanted a good starter home where stairs aren't involved and where we can have room for one more baby. Maddox is growing quickly and with him is his play area. In our old townhouse, we had the right amount of space for us three. But with time we knew we would grow out of it. It didn't take us long to realize we wanted a home. A couple of weeks passed and we found a home we loved. With the idea of buying a home comes a lot of decoration talk and the overall concept of a home. Christian and I are homebodies and we love a cozy home. We also love having a friendly, inviting home which means our home has to represent us.

I spent a lot of time looking up home mood boards which later got sent to Christian through text messages and we end up deciding if we liked it or not. Being able to have a mood board for one specific room really helps me visualize how that would look in my home. Obviously, you have to take into consideration the size of the room and the lighting so that you can plan accordingly. By taking this extra step it lays out the foundation to your dream home. I like to go room by room and incorporate what I already have while adding a few new things to make the room look different.

Our home concept is very neutral but I like to add pieces that make it stand out. We love airy but simple homes that make it inviting for anyone that comes over. The pictures above are not original content. They're Pinterest pictures along with online stores I love. As you can see I label my mood board and I always start with the entryway. I think your entryway sets up the ambiance in your home its the first thing people see when they come in. Who doesn't love a wooden table with a couple of good ol' books. I also think that having a mirror on the wall is a plus! I wouldn't add baskets to the bottom of the table just because Maddox would probably destroy them but they're good accent pieces. I also can't live without large vases and faux arrangements. I usually travel to Homegoods or shop online for detailed decoration.

The living room is our all-time favorite place. Its where we sit and watch t.v, where we cuddle before heading to bed and where we host the most. I also like to have Maddox on the floor with his toys while I cook or clean. My sofas are beige and we love a fluffy couch with a lot of pillows and throws. I typically go for a darker neutral palette and add color with the sofa cushions. I like the ivory and brown tones with a hint of black. As for our coffee table, we used our ottoman as a table. This time around I want a wooden table that sits in the middle of both sofas with farmhouse beads, a nice bowl, or old books that you find in Goodwill or Salvation Army. I have an obsession with bookshelves! I love adding special pieces to them and adding our wedding or family pictures there would be great. I didn't have one in the townhouse but I'm definitely adding this to our first home.

I am at all no Joanna Gaines or Interior designer but I do love decorating and adding style to a place where you spend most of your time. As I continue adding more mood boards to our haven home I'll keep you guys updated.
